Loma Farm is a small-scale organic vegetable and flower farm in Southern Leelanau County, a few miles outside of Traverse City. Farmer friends wanted to rework their kitchen to make it homier and less industrial. Located within a pole barn, we introduced clean long lines and natural materials where appropriate. The kitchen, once separated by walls, is now connected to the couples living and dining areas. One wall of the galley kitchen is entirely white cabinets and black soapstone counters. This is contrasted by the other side of the galley which has butcher block work tables and a stainless steel range. The marriage of two aesthetic design magazines, Remodalista on one side, Kinfolk on the other was our inspiration. A small seating area accommodates the farmers for daily life, but fully flexible to host a large gathering. Phase two will incorporate French doors to create an axis to the farm itself. For the barn, we consulted head farmer Nic Theisen providing direction where needed to allow for optimal circulation to accommodate their growing business.
