This new single-family home is located on a wooded lot in Northport, Michigan. The client, a graphic designer, wanted to incorporate their metropolitan roots into a new northern Michigan home. 

We utilized the natural hillside and signature trees as grounding elements for an ascending interior stairway that runs along the full east-west axis of the home connecting a lower level garage and entry; main floor living and bedroom; and a third-floor open loft complete with office and guest space. Bookshelves and multiple workspaces throughout provide plenty of space for creative endeavors.

Intended for year-round use, the form is simple and playful with large windows framing eye-catching views and varying overhangs creating spaces to enjoy the changing seasons. The material palette of unrefined metals and natural wood is juxtaposed with contemporary pops of color, blending an appreciation for an urban aesthetic while respecting the northern Michigan landscape.
